Time Lapse Film: Sky Drama II | Midwest
This weekend I released my second release in the Sky Drama time lapse series. Words are just words - but my focus in 2016 is to be releasing these little projects every month or two. The last several years have seen me go through a bit of a rut with the sky and my camera. I went through the longest tornado drought I have experienced since I turned 16 and gained the ability to drive a car and go find them myself, and felt completely void of any creativity otherwise. Things had always come easy, or so it seemed, and the sudden lack of that was briefly paralyzing.
Time lapse photography was always the one constant. When I couldn't drum up a creative foreground, and the sky wouldn't meet me halfway, I knew that I could always pick a favorite from my mental location library and let the camera tick away. And I think that's what this project is about. Most of the scenes were shot in 2014-2015, when my creative blood was running cold, but my need to be with nature was not. The clips go back as far as 2012, which marked the beginning of the 3 year tornado drought - finally concluding in July 2015.
Future films will likely be a little bit more tightly fitted to a specific theme, but there will always be a place for a good five minutes worth of Midwestern skies.
