Another Round of December Severe Storms + High Winds

A widespread high-end synoptic (non-thunderstorm) wind event is expected to unfold today and tonight with wind gusts exceeding 50-75 MPH from the Plains to the Midwest. We'll be on the southern periphery of the event here in Champaign-Urbana with winds likely topping 50 MPH, especially late-evening and tonight.

In the core of the strongest winds from Colorado to Minnesota & Wisconsin, where winds gust to 70 MPH + I expect to see Widespread power outages/damage to infrastructure Blowing dust/visibility issues Extreme fire weather conditions Tree damage Damage to roofs/outbuildings Semi-trailers toppled

Additionally, another round of severe thunderstorms is expected to race across portions of Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin tonight with fast-moving tornadoes and wind gusts over 80 MPH possible with the strongest storms.
